THE PROJECT

£27m flagship regeneration initiative delivering a vibrant community, leisure and neighbourhood hub including a leisure centre with swimming pool, a teaching pool, health & fitness centre, dance, aerobic and martial arts studios, sports halls, badminton and squash courts. It also contains a library with ICT facilities, three GP Practices in a new Primary Care Centre.  There is also a pharmacy, cafe, crèche, a 14-19 Diploma Centre and flexible areas for use by voluntary and community groups together with banqueting and function suites and office/meeting room space for community and general use.   The scheme also involved regeneration of the adjacent Victorian Park with additional grass pitches, a flood lit full size all weather football/rugby pitch, floodlighting to three bowling greens and a new bowls pavilion.   Landscaping works included lit footpaths and cycleways.  A skate park and BMX area have also been created together with improvements to the access infrastructure and car parking provision.
